New South Wales – Noise – New Regulations for noise control proposed
The NSW EPA has released the Protection of the Environment Operations (Noise Control) Regulation 2026, and a Regulatory Impact Statement, to replace the current Regulation which is due to repeal on 1 September 2026. Several options are proposed, such as simplifying specific labelling on noise equipment, extending noise timeframes, and extending liabilities for specified offensive noise, among other things.

Australia – Emissions reduction – Draft New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Rules released
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is seeking feedback on the Draft New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Rules 2026. The proposed Rules would support the operation of the Act by setting out requirements related to the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Registry.

New South Wales – Water – New Regulations for water proposed
The NSW Government has released the Water NSW Regulation 2026, to replace the current Regulation which is due to repeal on 1 September 2026. Several options are proposed to continue to enable WaterNSW to effectively manage and protect the environment and the quality and quantity of water in declared catchment areas, such as implementation of remediation requirements, reclassification of specified areas, and an increase to penalties, among other things.
