Australia – Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme to be expanded

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is proposing to expand the range of product categories regulated under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme. Stakeholders are invited to submit a nomination for a product category to be considered for inclusion under the WELS scheme.

Australian Capital Territory – Supporting legislation for new Biosecurity Act introduced

The ACT Government has introduced the Biosecurity Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 to Parliament to support the transition to the new Biosecurity Act 2023. The Bill will make amendments to several pieces of legislation and update references to the Animal Diseases Act 2005, Pest Plants and Animals Act 2005 and the Plant Diseases Act 2002 which will be replaced by the new biosecurity Act.

New South Wales – Management of Crown Land under review

The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is undertaking a statutory review of the Crown Land Management Act 2016, and has released a discussion paper for public and stakeholder feedback. The review aims to determine whether the policy objectives remain suitable, and to strengthen and improve the framework for managing Crown Land. A final report on the review is expected to be tabled to Parliament by 1 July 2024.
