Proposed changes to environmental protection legislation passed (WA)

The WA Government has passed legislation that would amend the Environmental Protection Act 1986 to streamline the environmental impact assessment process, improve native vegetation clearing provisions, improve the efficiency of regulating emissions and discharges, modernise investigation and enforcement powers, and increase penalties for certain environmental offences, among other changes. Commencement of most parts is yet to be proclaimed.

Work Health and Safety Act commenced in part (WA)

Parts of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 have commenced, however the majority of the legislation will not become law until the supporting regulations are finalised next year.

National Parks and Wildlife amendment legislation passed (NSW)

The NSW Government has passed legislation that would amend the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 by changing the reservation status of various land areas across the state. Commencement is yet to be proclaimed.
