Australia – Emissions reduction – Removal of New Vehicle Efficiency Standard exemptions proposed
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is seeking feedback on proposed amendments to the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Determination 2024 that would remove exemptions for certain vehicles with a gross vehicle mass between 3.5 tonnes to 3.855 tonnes from 1 July 2027.

New South Wales – Energy use – New Bill to strengthen renewable energy projects passed
The NSW Government has passed the Energy Legislation Amendment (Prioritising Renewable Energy) Bill 2026 through Parliament to help deliver key renewable energy projects and develop best practice strategies for priority energy projects. The Bill aims to accelerate the infrastructure needed to generate, store and move clean energy across the state, while still prioritising planning, environmental and consultation obligations.

Queensland – Biodiversity – Environmental Offsets Framework under review
The QLD Government is reviewing the state’s Environmental Offsets Framework and has released a Discussion Paper to support the consultation. The paper presents three focus areas aimed at improving regulation and supporting offsets delivery, to unlock better outcomes for the environment.
