Australia – Plant – Reform for earthmoving machinery used for lifting proposed – Open for comment until March 2

Safe Work Australia is reviewing options to improve safety of earthmoving machinery when it is used for lifting operations and has published a discussion paper for consultation. Stakeholder submissions are sought on the proposed options, which are retaining existing model WHS requirements and creating national guidance, requiring machinery to be fitted with engineering controls, mandating training, and creating a new high risk work class. Comments close 2 March 2026.

New South Wales – Regulation – Mine safety compliance priorities released

The Resources Regulator has released its Compliance Priorities for January-June 2026. The priorities will support a safe and responsible mining, extractive and petroleum industry.

Victoria – Chemicals – Consultation to adopt national workplace exposure limits underway – Open for comment until 27 Feb

WorkSafe VIC is seeking feedback on a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) and proposed change for Victoria to adopt the Safe Work Australia Workplace Exposure Limits list. The changes will align Victoria’s airborne contaminant standards to the national list and update outdated limits for some hazardous substances. Comments close 27 February 2026.
