Australia – Disability discriminations laws under review

The Australian Government has published an issues paper on reforming the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and is seeking feedback. Submissions from the public are sought on the issues paper and via a community survey on the best way to reform the laws, which include a proposed ‘positive duty’ for all duty holders to take active steps to eliminate disability discrimination by preventing it from occurring. Comments close 24 October 2025.

New South Wales – Silica worker register amendment announced

The NSW Government has announced that regulations for establishing and keeping a silica worker register will commence on 1 October 2025. This follows consultation on the draft amendment which aims to increase health screening and assist in training and education for silica workers.

Western Australia – Bill to improve regulation of plumbing work introduced

The West Australian Government has introduced the Plumbers Licensing Amendment Bill 2025 to Parliament. The Bill will strengthen regulation of plumbing work including testing, maintenance, verification work and licensing, while increasing penalties for offences.
