New South Wales – New native vegetation management code amendment introduced
The NSW Government has introduced the Land Management (Native Vegetation) Code Amendment 2025 to Parliament and is seeking public feedback. The amendment proposes to improve the current code by strengthening the invasiveness test for specified native species, and to improve clarity of the provisions and introducing minimum management requirements for retained vegetation, among other things.

New Zealand – Overhaul of RMA national direction commenced
The New Zealand Government has launched public consultation on the largest proposed overhaul of national direction under the Resource Management Act in New Zealand’s history. Feedback is being sought on updates to national direction for infrastructure, development, the primary sector, and options to amend freshwater management, among other things.

South Australia – Biodiversity Bill passed
The South Australia Government has announced that the Biodiversity Bill 2025 has passed Parliament. The new Act will consolidate biodiversity requirements previously included in other legislation, improve protection of native animals and plants, and address the impacts of climate change. A commencement date is yet to be proclaimed.
