Australia – Heavy vehicles – Instruments for amended HVNL published

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and the National Transport Commission have published statutory instruments to accompany the amended Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) that will commence on 1 August 2026. The Safety Management System Standard 2026, National Audit Standard for Heavy Vehicle Accreditation, Ministerial Guidelines for Heavy Vehicle Accreditation 2026 and Ministerial Standard for Alternative Compliance Hours are available whilst the Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Operator Guideline is being finalised.

Victoria – Health – New bill to reform health legislation introduced

The VIC Government has introduced the Health Legislation Amendment (Regulatory Reform) Bill 2026 to Parliament, to amend provisions in relation to the registration of cooling tower systems, clarify requirements for the disposal of radiation sources, and require financial assurance to possess, transfer, or renew a radiation use licence.

Queensland – Psychological hazards – Review of anti-discrimination and human rights frameworks announced

The QLD Government has announced it will be reviewing human rights and anti-discrimination frameworks and has published the terms of reference. The review will include QLD Human Rights Commission’s functions and performance, as well as uncommenced provisions of the Respect at Work and Other Matters Amendment Act 2024, which would have created a positive duty for PCBUs under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. The review is intended to be complete by March 2027.
