Queensland – Workers compensation – Review of workers compensation legislation announced

The Office of Industrial Relations has announced a review of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and has published the terms of reference. The review will look at emerging issues including increased psychological claims and fraud reporting, consider if the self-insurance scheme is fit for purpose, and ensure the workers’ compensation scheme is fair, sustainable and protected.

Victoria – Dangerous goods – New dangerous goods bills introduced

The VIC Government has introduced the Occupational Health and Safety Amendment (Dangerous Goods) Bill 2026 and the Dangerous Goods Transport Bill 2026 which will amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and replace the Dangerous Goods Act 1985 respectively. The bills propose to regulate the safe storage and handling of dangerous goods at workplaces as well as during transport.

New South Wales – Construction – Adoption of National Construction Code announced

The NSW Government has announced it will adopt the National Construction Code 2025 on 1 May 2027, following a 12-month transition period to allow the construction industry time to adjust to the changes. The new code will help the state continue to deliver homes that meet essential health, safety, amenity and sustainability requirements.
