Australia – Cyber security and critical infrastructure package introduced
The Australian Government has introduced amendments to the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 (SOCI Act) and a new Cyber Security Bill 2024 to Parliament following earlier consultation. If passed, the SOCI Act changes will clarify obligations for systems that hold ‘business critical data’, expand government powers for managing serious incidents, create a power for government to direct entities to vary their risk management plan if it has serious deficiencies, align telecommunications security provisions, and improve information sharing.

Australia – Fair Work Act amendments under review – Open for comment until 29 Nov
The Australian Government has announced an independent review of certain Fair Work Act 2009 amendments, including the provision for union officials to not require an entry permit when assisting a health and safety representative. Terms of reference have been published and public submissions are sought on how the amendments are operating and if any further changes are needed. Comments close 29 November 2024.

Australia – SRCC Act under review – Open for comment until 2 Dec
The Australian Government has announced an independent review of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRCC Act) and has published an issues paper. Interested parties are invited to provide a submission or complete a survey relating to the Comcare scheme’s coverage and entitlements, experience with the scheme, scheme governance and administration, dispute resolution and best practice. Comments close 2 December 2024.
