Australia – Development of Nature Repair Rules underway
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has sought feedback on a discussion paper to help inform the development of legislative rules that will support the operation of the Nature Repair Market. The proposed rules will set out requirements related to biodiversity projects, biodiversity certificates, the Register, and assurance and compliance such as biodiversity project reports, audits, and notification.

South Australia – Biosecurity Bill introduced
The South Australian Government has introduced the Biosecurity Bill 2024 to Parliament, following stakeholder consultation and a review of existing biosecurity-related legislation. The proposed legislation will create a modern and responsive biosecurity management framework, consolidate several existing Acts to improve consistency across sectors, and include requirements for shared responsibility and a general biosecurity duty.

Western Australia – Parallel decision-making policy for environmental approvals published
The WA Government has published its Parallel Decision-Making Policy in preparation for upcoming changes to the environmental approvals process. The policy will guide Decision Making Authorities with making decisions in parallel to an environment assessment process under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act, and will reduce assessment timeframes, among other things.
