Queensland – Response to electrical safety law review published

The Queensland Government has released its response to the electrical safety law review and a decision paper, following previous consultation. Changes that have in-principle support include capturing new and emerging energy generation and storage technologies under the legislation, clarifying that testing electrical equipment is live work, allowing information to be shared with the Labour Hire Licensing Compliance Unit, clarifying standards, and considering de-energising requirements in various circumstances. The Government has stated it will undertake targeted consultation for several recommendations and that many others need further consideration.

Victoria – Proposed regulations for workplace injury rehabilitation and compensation released

The Victorian Government is seeking feedback on the proposed Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Regulations 2024 to replace sunsetting regulations, as well as its associated Regulatory Impact Statement. Proposed changes include updating percentages deemed not remuneration for certain contractors, aligning information and identity requirements for workers resident overseas with local requirements, and removing the discount applied to the formula for self-insurer contributions.

Australia – Fatigue awareness campaign completed

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator has completed a campaign on heavy vehicle driver fatigue. Of the intercepted vehicles, approximately 4 per cent led to fatigue-related compliance action.
