Queensland – Energy (Renewable Transformation and Jobs) Bill introduced
The Energy (Renewable Transformation and Jobs) Bill 2023 has been introduced to parliament following consultation. The Bill will enshrine Queensland’s three renewable energy targets in law and establish the framework for the State’s renewable energy zones, as well as create governance pathways for the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, among other things.

South Australia – Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Bill passed
The SA Government has announced that the Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Bill 2023 has passed Parliament. The new Act will implement a legislative framework designed to support the growing hydrogen and renewable energy industries, and streamline investment in projects by combining issues such as land access, environmental impacts and native title rights into a single regulatory process. Development of associated regulations is on the way.

Australia – Consultation on Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act reforms underway
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has commenced consultation on Australia’s new Nature Positive environmental legislation. Stakeholders are invited to provide their views on the proposed reforms by completing a survey. Comments close 30 March 2024.
