Queensland – Report for anti-discrimination law review published

The Queensland Human Rights Commission has released its report into the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 review following consultation. It contains 46 recommendations, including proposing a new Act that contains a positive duty for organisations to take reasonable and proportionate measures to eliminate sexual harassment, discrimination and other unacceptable conduct.

Western Australia – Mining Amendment Bill passes Parliament

The Western Australian Government has passed the Mining Amendment Bill 2021 following a consultation period earlier this year. The Bill will adjust mining approval processes and administration to streamline the system and ease the administrative burdens for industry and government. Consultation on supporting regulations for the Bill is expected to begin soon, with the amendments expected to commence in mid to late 2023.

New South Wales – Reforms to building laws proposed

The New South Wales Government is reforming building laws, and has released the Draft Building Bill 2022Draft Building Compliance and Enforcement Bill 2022, and Draft Building and Construction Legislation Amendment Bill 2022, along with their regulatory impact statements and other supporting documentation. Construction workers and other interested parties are invited to provide feedback on the draft documents via a survey.
