New South Wales – Draft Forestry Regulation released

The Department of Primary Industries has released the Draft Forestry Regulation 2022 for public consultation, along with a Regulatory Impact Statement. The proposed Regulation will remake the Forestry Regulation 2012, which is due to expire on 1 September 2022, with some amendments to strengthen protections for activities conducted in State Forests and to ensure the regulations continue to effectively support the Forestry Act 2012. Comments close 1 July 2022.

Western Australia – Consultation on biosecurity law review commenced

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has commenced consultation on the statutory review of WA’s biosecurity laws. The consultation invites feedback to identify the major themes and issues through a survey which assesses the effectiveness of the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007, the adequacy of penalties, and the Act’s ability to respond to changing environments. It will be followed by a second consultation round to further explore the issues, with a final round aimed at collecting feedback on the findings and potential solutions. Comments close 27 July 2022.

New Zealand – Regulatory proposals for Sustainable Biofuels Obligation released

The NZ Government is seeking feedback on the Sustainable Biofuels Obligation: Proposals for Regulations, which addresses regulatory proposals to support the implementation and administration of the Sustainable Biofuels Obligation, previously the Sustainable Biofuels Mandate  The obligation will require fuel suppliers to reduce the emissions intensity of their fuel supply by a set percentage every year by deploying liquid biofuels. Comments close 1 July 2022.
