Australia – Amendments to National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme legislation proposed

The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources is proposing amendments to National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme legislation, which are expected to commence on 1 July 2022. The proposed amendments will update the methodology used to calculate Scope 2 emissions, create new fuel types for biomethane and end-of-life tyres, and update certain emission reporting requirements.

Victoria – Draft Regulations to ban certain single-use plastics released

The VIC Government has released the draft Environment Protection Amendment (Banning Single-Use Plastic Items) Regulations 2022 which will ban the sale or supply of single-use plastic straws, plates, cutlery, drink stirrers, expanded polystyrene food and drink containers and cotton bud sticks from 1 February 2023. A Regulatory Impact Statement has also been released together with the draft Regulations for public comment. Comments close 15 May 2022.

Western Australia – Co-design process for new Aboriginal heritage regulations launched

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage has now launched the co-design process for the regulations and guiding documents that will support the new Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021. The co-design process will include three phases of public consultation, and the first phase, which starts in April, will consist of workshops in regional areas across the State. More and .
