Australia – Changes to energy standards and labelling requirements for televisions, computer monitors and digital signage proposed

 

The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources is proposing changes to minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) and labelling requirements for televisions, computer monitors and digital signage displays. Feedback is sought on whether to align Australian and New Zealand requirements with international standards, and whether energy efficiency labelling requirements should be extended to include digital signage displays. Comments close 6 April 2022.

NSW – Draft energy from waste regulation announced

 

The NSW EPA has released the Draft Protection of the Environment Operations (General) Amendment (Thermal Energy from Waste) Regulation 2021 for public consultation. The draft proposes improvements in accordance with the Government’s Energy from Waste Infrastructure Plan, to ensure that energy from waste is achieved sustainably, as the state transitions towards a circular waste and resource recovery framework. It also proposes to maximise efficiencies in infrastructure, waste management, innovation and energy recovery, among other things.

Australia – Changes to marine air pollution requirements proposed

 

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is seeking feedback on the draft of the Marine Order 97 (Marine Pollution Prevention – Air Pollution) 2022, which is expected to commence 1 January 2023. The new Marine Order will clarify the rules for nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide and ozone depleting substance emissions from vessels, and proposes changes in relation to engine international air pollution prevention (EIAPP) certificates and associated technical files, among other things.
