Western Australia – Consultation on Environmental Protection Act amendments announced – Open for comment until 31 May

The EPA has released revisions to a suite of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedures prior to the commencement of certain amendments to the Environmental Protection Act 1986, which are due to come into force in August 2021. Feedback is sought to ensure that the revised EIA procedures deliver efficient practices and strong environment protection outcomes.

New South Wales – Heritage Act under review – Open for comment

The NSW Government has announced a review of the Heritage Act 1977 and has released a discussion paper for public feedback. The review focuses on better management and protection of heritage areas across the state and will examine the effectiveness of the heritage regulatory system as well as heritage aspects of the Environmental Protection and Assessment Act 1979.

Western Australia – Draft Policy on applications for amendments to clearing permits released – Comments close 28 May

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) has released the draft Policy: Applications for Amendments to Clearing Permits and is seeking stakeholder feedback. The policy details how the DWER will carry out its regulatory functions under Part V Division 2 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 when deciding on an application to amend a clearing permit.
