New Design and Building Practitioners Regulation proposed – Open for comment until 11 Jan

The NSW Government is proposing a new draft Design and Building Practitioners Regulation 2020, and has released a Regulatory Impact Statement and draft CPD guidelines for prescribed practitioners and professional engineers for public comment. The draft Regulation would introduce new registration schemes for certain design practitioners, building practitioners and professional engineers, establish Continuing Professional Development and Codes of Practice requirements, and introduce the requirement for design and building practitioners to declare that their work complies with the Building Code of Australia, among other things. Comments close 11 Jan 2021.

Report for review of WHS mining and petroleum laws tabled

The NSW Government has tabled a report following a statutory review of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013 and corresponding Regulation. Of the 40 recommendations for improvement made, the Resources Regulator has committed to undertaking further consultation on 15 recommendations which propose legislative amendments, in early 2021.

Work Health and Safety Act commenced in part

Parts of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 have commenced, however, the majority of the legislation will not become law until the supporting regulations are finalised next year.
