NSW Government launches silicosis strategy

The NSW Government has launched a new plan intended to reduce instances of workplace silicosis. The plan includes initiatives such as commencement of a new workplace exposure standard for silica of 0.05 mg/m3 from 1 July 2020, the provision of rebates for the manufactured stone industry to purchase new equipment, categorisation of silicosis as a notifiable disease, the introduction of a Silicosis Health Register, and on-the-spot fines for non-compliant dry cutting.
