Heavy vehicle driver fatigue project report released

The National Transport Commission and the Cooperative Research Centre for Alertness, Safety and Productivity have released the report for the heavy vehicle driver fatigue project, which includes a mental health substudy. It found that shifts exceeding 12 hours had more than a twofold increase in drowsiness events, alertness was impaired when driving at night, and that alertness was greatest for shifts beginning at 6 – 8 am.
