Tasmania - Construction Legislation - Building Regulatory Framework passed

The TAS Government has passed the Occupational Licensing Amendment Bill 2016 . The proposed legislation creates a risk-based approach to acquiring building approvals where low-risk work can be carried out without a permit. In particular, the Bills allow accreditation of builders, building designers, surveyors, architects, engineers and related occupations, and provides access to a stronger audit and compliance regime. It is expected that the new legislation will come into effect on 1 January 2017.
