WA Critical Risks Safety Focus Areas for 2018

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has announced it will be focusing on critical risks in the mining and petroleum industry during 2018. Inspectors will continue to work with industry and will reinforce the importance of key areas such as leadership and accountability, complying with approved safety documentation and ongoing asset management. Review of policy statement for waste levy underway

The Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) has commenced a review of the MWAC Policy Statement on the Waste Levy and Strategic Waste Funding and are inviting comments on the proposed changes outlined in the discussion paper. Issues open for discussion include the rationale for the waste levy, application of the levy to waste generated in non-metropolitan areas, basis for setting levy rates and regulation of the levy.
